Now I ask you … what kind of fool are you? If your response is “I am no fool” I have news for you. God has said in His Written Word, the Holy Scriptures, that all men (and women) are fools. And based on His Word I say to you that there are different kinds or types of fools. What kind that comes to mind immediately is the person who takes the position “there is no God”. I used to be such a person. God says in Psalm 14:1 “The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” ” Yes, I used to deny the existence of God and therefore was indeed a fool. The Bible has much to say about fools. The word fool today usually means “a senseless fellow, a dullard.” The biblical definition has the added dimension of “someone who disregards God’s Word.” The Bible lists many characteristics of such a person, often contrasting him with one who is wise. “The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.” A fool is one whose wayward heart turns continually toward foolishness. “Fools speak foolishness and make evil plans” (Isaiah 32:6). Proverbs 26:11 says, “As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.” Fools do not learn their lessons from the mistakes they make. From the book of Proverbs: “a fool hates knowledge (Proverbs 1:22), takes no pleasure in understanding (Proverbs 18:2), enjoys wicked schemes (Proverbs 10:23), proclaims folly (Proverbs 12:23), spurns a parent’s discipline (Proverbs 15:5), speaks perversity (Proverbs 19:1), is quick-tempered (Proverbs 12:16), gets himself in trouble with his proud speech (Proverbs 14:3), mocks at sin (Proverbs 14:9), is deceitful (Proverbs 14:8), and despises his mother (Proverbs 15:20). So far all I have shared is being a fool because we are rebellious to God, but a person can also be a fool for God. 1 Corinthians 4:10 says “We are fools for Christ (His account, His sake).” If I am going to be called a fool I much prefer I am called that on His account than any of the other examples I have shared.
Lastly God has declared in 1 Cor. 1:18 that “For the message of the cross is foolishness [absurd and illogical] to those who are perishing and spiritually dead [because they reject it], but to us who are being saved [by God’s grace] it is [the manifestation of] the power of God.” Amplified Bible. So if you are a person who thinks that preaching about the cross of Christ is foolishness then you are a lost fool on your way to eternal destruction in hellfire. Don’t be a fool for the devil. Wise up! Look into God’s Word for in it is life (the true meaning of life) and salvation. God in His great love and mercy offers you a free gift. As with any gift being offered it is not yours until you reach out and take possession of it.
