A lady with MS and her husband ride their tadpole trikes in rural Utah. Doctors told her she would be in a wheel chair for the rest of her life, but she does fine pedaling her tadpole trike. She shares her testimony about being paralyzed from her neck to her feet, but with sheer determination she is now walking and able to ride her trike. She contributes it all to her trike as it gave her back so much that she had lost. WOW, you go girl!

I am now 77 years old … getting up there … and various things have changed and are continuing to change. One thing I have noticed is an ongoing struggle with motivation … motivation to make the effort to get up and out to ride my trike. I think I could easily just sit or lay around forgetting all about the fact that I have a trike. That being said, once I am out riding I enjoy myself. Motivationis something I have written about before.
I used to be very motivated to ride my trike. It has been a slow process changing, but I would have to say the most change has taken place just in the last couple of years. I truly believe that the exercise involved in riding has kept me as young as I am although it is all starting to catch up with me. I am not only looking older, but I am feeling older. Riding is the only real exercise I get and if I were to stop riding I think I would start going downhill fast. Although I feel somewhat old I am still fairly healthy all in all.
I don’t know what it would take to inspire me … to motivate me. Right now I am just telling myself that I really need to ride … that the exercise I get is good for me and much needed. My wife was going to retire this year and we were going to travel around some and ride together. Just today she told me that she plans to continue to work as long as she can. She is ten years younger than me. At this rate I will be in the grave and we will never ride together. Nothing is working out the way I had envisioned and planned.
Years ago I used to have some friends I rode with, but one moved away, one died and the other one hibernates for several months every year and when he does show himself in May he doesn’t do much riding. Having others to ride with helps.
They say attitude is everything. I am not sure I agree with that. It definitely helps, but one could have the best of atttitudes and if they are not physically up to it it ain’t gonna happen. Well, we will see what we will see, don’t you see? I just need to keep telling myself …

I don’t know about you but I enjoy watching videos of tadpole trike riding in other countries. Here is one of two blokes out for a ride on a Sunday. This is in Australia, mate. Gee, I just love that kind of talk. Not really. I am married to my one and only mate. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video. I hope you can understand what they are saying. It is supposed to be English, but you could not prove it by me. It is so difficult to watch people drive and ride on the wrong side of the road/trail. 😉

Many of us think that our trike is made somewhere different than it actually is. Included in those are names like ICE, TerraTrike, KM X, HP Velotechnik, Trident and others. Just because the company is headquartered in the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Australia or some other country does not mean that their trikes are made in that country. The truth is they are almost all made in Taiwan or at least the frames are. It is true that certain models are made elsewhere, usually in country, but most are produced in Taiwan. A very few are made in mainland China. Taiwan is known for excellent frame building and has pretty much cornered the market on it. The welding is usually excellent. Some trike frames get sent out bare bones while others are shipped fully assembled and painted.
This topic came up when someone said that Trident trikes are made in North Carolina. I told the person, no, they are made in Taiwan as are most trikes. It is hard to find anything about it, but I finally found one article that clearly said that Trident in made in Taiwan. Years ago I spent a lot of time and effort researching this subject to write this article on the subject. Things have not changed much. It was hard then to find out much about the matter. And with that I rest my case. Regardless of where your trike is made …

Some of us are fortunate to be able to ride with other trikers. And for those who do ride together it is definitely nice to have radio communication available to use. That sure beats trying to shout to each other. I have always wanted to get some sort of radio communication but all my riding partners have fizzled out so I ride by myself for the last few years.

Complexity added yes, but a tilting trike sure would be nice to ride. The increase in handling would be great. You can readily see in this short video how much better this tilting trike handles than the non tilting trike as they race each other around the track.

I know that there are those who ride both tadpole trikes and diamond frame bicycle, but I am not one of them. Even my recumbent bicycle just sat around collecting dust once I rode a tadpole trike. There is just no comparison. The tadpole trike is just more comfortable, safer and lots more fun. I even sold my motorcycle many years ago as I was hooked on riding my tadpole trike. I thought I would ride motorcycles until I had to give it up, but like my bicycles my motorcycle just sat around and collected dust.
The tadpole rider in this video has a high dollar diamond frame bike but his testimony is he prefers riding his tadpole trike. Yep, I can identify with that.

Yikes! Definitely not my cup of tea. Alligators, bears, mountain lions, and deadly poisonous snakes and other dangerous critters I much prefer to see on a tv screen or computer monitor. not in person especially up close like this. I wonder if the camera was shaking when this next image was taken seeing how it is rather blurred.

It was a grand day when someone came up with the idea of converting former railroad corridors into bike trails. Rail Trails are all over the place and very much used by many people. Here where I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana we only have one rail trail so far, the Pufferbelly Trail, which immediately became one of my favorite trails. It is part of a greater trail of 91 miles in length called the Poka-Bache State Visionary Trail. Trail planning and constructionis very much alive in Indiana as it is in many other States.
I just stated above that Fort Wayne has only one rail trail. That is not true. I forgot about the Fish Line Trail which at this time is only a mile long in our area. Further north starting in Kendallville, Indiana it has been constructed on further north. Eventually it is suppose to run clear to Grand Rapids, Michigan as well as further south of Fort Wayne. That will be a pretty long rail trail … more than 180 miles.
I have not traveled around much riding various trails like some people have. I feel fortunate to have been able to ride on the trails I have been on which include: Angola Trail, Auburn Trail, Decatur Rivergreenway, Pumpkinvine Nature Trail, Nickel Plate Trail, Panhandle Trail, Cardinal Greenway, and the Monon Trail. In Ohio I have ridden on the southernmost section of the Little Miami Scenic Trail. That is about it. Of course, I have ridden extensively on all of the Fort Wayne Trails … some 120,000 miles worth.
If virtual riding counts I have ridden several other trails. It is not likely I will ever actually get to ride them, but with Google’s help I have checked them out already and become somewhat familiar with some of them, particularly the Withlacoochee State Trail in Florida.
As I said, some people are fortunate enough to travel around and ride on many different trails. Here is a video by a fellow cyclist who has done just that and this is his top ten list of rail trails in the U.S. …
